The media has been speculating for some weeks now about the reasons behind actor Aamir Khan’s latest hair snafu. If new sightings are to be relied on, it would seem that Khan’s strange hairstyle has, well, some rather unearthly origins. Masti Chaman, a freelance mural artist who was recently commissioned to pai nt Khan’s septic tank purple, approached us yesterday with some startling news. “I was cleaning my brushes in Aamir’s kitchen sink, when I heard a long, sustained wail coming from inside his garage. I’m the curious sort, you know, so I crept up and peeped in the door.” What Chaman saw would knock the skin off the hardiest journo’s knees. “Aamir was standing in the middle of the room, looking completely zonked. His eyes were open, and only the whites were showing. It was so eerie!” Oh but there’s more! “Suspended above his head was a small, spinning spacecraft. Even as I watched, a ladder popped out of the craft and a small green alien creature in tiny orange overalls stepped out onto Aamir’s head. The creature was carrying what looked like a small lawnmower. It then turned on the machine and started cropping patterns into Aamir’s scalp: strange heiroglyphics, not unlike the stuff you see on the walls of Egyptian pyramids or Aztec temples. Of course, I didn’t stick around to make sense of what was going on.I was terrified!” And rightly so.

“So I crept out the house and ran for my life!” We would have done the same, we assured Chaman. But the evidence is plain for all to see: Aamir Khan is an alien message board! Mumbai city, don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Shilpa Shetty moves to the fast track

Shilpa Shetty, along with beau Raj Kunder, participated in the inaugural Formula One World Singtel Singapore Grand Prix held from September 26-28. The first Formula One event under floodlights had Fernando Alonso winning his first 2008 victory. Jackie Stewart and Niki Lauda, Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen, Damon Hill and his wife Georgie, and Jody Scheckter and Mika Hakkinnen were also present at the event.Recalling the event, the actress says from Singapore, “It was fantastic! The rush of adrenalin and the palpable energy was awesome! I had gone to attend the event on the invitation of Bernie Ecclestone (CEO, Formula One Management) Though Singapore is a big hub for Asians, I was invited through Britain (Shilpa had won the TV show Big Brother last year) not India though I cheered for Force India team.” Shilpa wore a French designer outfit, which she bought in Miami, when she was there for I had shot there for Dostana.Though Shilpa’s favourite is Lewis Hamilton, it was Spanish driver Fernando Alonso who won the game. Shilpa says, “It’s not important who won. I stood there like a fan watching the likes of Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton start the race right in front of me.

I couldn’t get to meet them as just before take off they don’t meet people but concentrate on the run. I was excited just watching them up close and personal.”The actress who loves fast cars adds, “I am petrified of driving. However I might risk it on the racetrack. It’s a heady feeling to drive a powerful car with high speed.” After the finals on Sunday night, Shilpa went on a shopping spree with boyfriend Raj Kundra and her agent. “I have just bought lots of clothes, shoes and bags. I love shopping and can shop anywhere. It was great to have Raj with me.”

Hrithik’s most sensuous film to date

While stories about all kinds of calamities, manmade and otherwise, are filtering in from the US regarding Anurag Basu’s now-you-steamy-no-you-don’t film Kites, father and son Rakesh and Hrithik Roshan are happily shooting the film to complete it in the first week of October. Though the original Director of Photography Bobby Singh has opted out, the Roshans claim there was no illwill involved in the changeover. Says Hrithik from Las Vegas, “It was an amicable split. Now Ayananka Bose is doing it.” Ayananka Bose who was a former assistant to the well-known cinematographer Ravi Chandran has shot Yashraj Films’ Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom. The change, says Hrithik, has made no difference to the project, ” We shifted earlier this week to Las Vegas as per plan. We’re now here in Vegas for a month. Then we shoot in LA for eight days. After that we’re done.” Kangana Ranaut who plays a female lead in Kites has just joined the Roshans and her favourite director Anurag Basu in Vegas. After working with Kangana in Gangster and Metro Basu strongly recommended the actress to the Roshans who liked what they saw.

According the sources, the change of guard behind the camera makes no difference to the chemistry between Hrithik and Barbara.”The two sizzle together. This is Hrithik’s most sensuous film to date. The accent here is not only on his dancing(which Hrithik has to go easy on after his knee injury and recovery), but on his ability to generate sensuality which has so far remained largely under wraps, the chemistry with Aishwarya in Dhoom 2 notwithstanding. After finishing shooting in New Mexico on 12 September we’ve shifted to Las Vegas. From here we’ll relocate for the last lap of the US shooting to Los Angeles on Oct 3. We’re returning to Mumbai on 12 October, ” the senior Roshan signs off.

Kareena Kapoor denies turning producer

Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor has dismissed reports that she had turned a producer.”I have no intentions to turn a producer. The rumours are baseless. There is no truth to it,” the actor said in a statement on Monday. A source close to Kareena confirmed her statement, adding: “Kareena is committed to several projects and is going to be neck deep in work for another two years. So where is the time to launch her own production house?” Rumours were rife that Kareena was to launch her own production banner with the first film to be a romantic comedy directed by her close friend and director Lovely Singh of Kyaa Love Story Hai fame. Kareena was to play the lead.It also raised speculation that real-life beau Saif Ali Khan would star opposite her in the film. However, the source maintained:”Kareena hails from the RK family and with the prestigious RK banner with her, why would Kareena launch an independent production house?”

Saif Ali Khan apologises for alleged assault

Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan has apologised for a row with a photojournalist here but maintained that he was not involved in the alleged assault on the photographer. Saif’s apology came hours after Government Railway Police (GRP) registered a case against him and four others of a film unit for allegedly assaulting a photojournalist.The actor, who initially remained unavailable after the case was registered against him and others, later held a meeting with local journalists on Monday and apologised. A compromise was worked out between both sides.”Patiala is a lovely place and our shoot has been going really well. The crowd has also been very co-operative. As an individual, I was not present at the time of the incident so I don’t know the details. But as a producer and on behalf of Illuminati Films, our company, I would like to apologise on behalf of our security for any inconvenience caused to the local press,” said Saif. “Shooting can get pretty chaotic and crowded in small towns and some pushing and shoving normally happens in a crowd situation. It happens all the time.So if anyone has been offended I would like to apologise to them personally and also on behalf of our production,” added the actor.

Saif and members of the unit of his latest film Three Idiots were booked for assault, intimidation and inciting violence. The actor himself was booked for inciting the film unit workers.Commenting on the assault charges levelled against him, Saif said: “That is completely, completely false and baseless. I was not even around. Anyway, like I said before, I would still like to apologise to anyone who was offended.” Earlier during the day, GRP officials said a case was registered following a complaint by a photojournalist from a Hindi newspaper who said he had been beaten up by the film unit staff after being incited by the actor.”We registered a case against Khan and others following a complaint,” GRP inspector general G.S Grewal said.The photographer was taking pictures of Khan at the railway station here on Sunday. The star objected and told private security and film production unit associates to tackle the photojournalist following which he was allegedly thrashed.

Himesh Reshammiya’s aggression to make it big appears to be pushing new parameters. And so is his rivalry with Sonu Nigam.Recently after seeing Sonu featured on the cover of a prestigious International magazine OK, Himesh has been heard sending feelers to the same magazine and some others for a cover page feature.
Also the recent telecast of Sonu’s concert with ‘The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra’, has made the singer with a nasal twang so restless that he has contacted the Symphony orchestra of London for a simillar concert based on his own songs!
Inside sources also reveal Himesh has threatened Bhushan Kumar, the head honcho of T Series, not to allow Sonu’s songs to be included in their movies and even if they are, they would not be promoted to ensure there is no competition for him in his own grounds.
Why else would one not hear Sonu at all in any T Series promo, a company whom he worked for since his early days? And apparently Bhushan has bowed down to the diktats set by Himesh.

Kareena Kapoor hops on the production bandwagon

So what, if her beau Saif Ali Khan did not cast her in his debut production venture and went for the hazel-eyed Deepika Padukone instead, Kareena Kapoor will be soon boasting of her own production house. The actress, who has been hitting headlines for her off-beat ventures varying from opening a yoga learning institute to a school for the handicapped, is now all charged up to understand the mullah churning nuisances of the film making business, as she turns producer.According to sources, Bebo had been toying with the idea of having her own production firm for long and is now all set to launch it officially. The buzz also has it that Kareena’s first ever production venture will go on floors early next year and will have her in the lead. So will Bebo’s baby Saif Ali Khan be playing the lead male role?
Though the formal word on who is going to be the male lead is not out yet, sources say it’s most likely that Saif will be seen playing Bebo’s romantic interest onscreen.

As for the direction, close friend Lovely Singh will direct Bebo’s maiden production project. A news daily even quoted an insider as saying, “Eros International will help Kareena fund the feature. Lovely Singh (Kyaa Love Story Hai director and Bebo’s close friend) will direct the actress in this romcom. Incidentally, Bebo did an item number in Lovely’s film (It’s Rocking), which went on become a huge chartbuster.”
Well, looks like Bebo seems to following in Saif Ali Khan’s league, quite literally.

Rani trying to hide her age?

Rani Mukerji presently shooting in Punjab for her yet-untitled Yash Raj flick has ended up rattling up her co-star, Shahid Kapoor. What started perhaps as an on the set prank ended up back firing on an already down and out Rani.A source informed, “It’s a known fact that Rani is older to Shahid by a few years. Shahid’s pairing with an older actress like Vidya Balan in Kismat Konnection didn’t exactly go down well with his female fans and critics alike. Taking a cue from it perhaps, Rani was hell bent on not letting their age difference be visible not only on screen but off the screen as well. Rani and her another co-star in the film, Anupam Kher were first to arrive for the Punjab schedule. Shahid joined them just a few days back. So when Shahid arrived, Rani started addressing him as, ‘Shahid Sir’ every now and then. Initially Shahid found it amusing. Shahid however, could not hide his embarrassment as she would say that in front of the entire Yash Raj unit which is like a ‘home ground’ for her. But after a point it started grating on his nerves when every single person in the unit started aping Rani and addressing him as ‘Shahid Sir’.

The ADs who were addressing him by his first name too went in to the ‘Shahid Sir’ mode. He mistook it all as being a purposely done prank by all present to irritate him initiated by Rani. Last week when Rani’s Man Friday went up to him to give Rani’s message to join him for lunch during the shooting lunch break and ended up using the ‘Shahid Sir’ term as usual. An irritated Shahid shouted back at him for using it and the poor chap literally ran back to Rani. Shahid didn’t join Rani for lunch but the matter seemed to be over by the evening after Rani went and spoke to him after the shoot for the day got over.”

“Now they both are calling each other by their first names. The rest of unit members right from Rani’s personal staff members to the ADs to the spot boys however are sticking to the typically filmy – ‘Shahid ji and Rani ji’ while speaking to them both.” the source concluded.
