Such are the ways of the film industry! After Emraan Hashmi, it’s the turn of another actor to increase his price drastically post a smashing hit at the box-office. Just that this time, it’s a veteran actor in question. It seems that the success of Welcome has gone to Nana Patekar’s head. The actor has reportedly demanded Rs 8 crore for a film to be produced and directed by Mehul Kumar. To remind all you nannies, Mehul Kumar’s film Krantiveer was responsible for the rise in Nana’s career, also fetching him a National Film Award for best actor. Now when Mehul is down and out, methinks it’s kinda ungrateful on Nana’s part to not reduce his price for the producer-director. My source tells the whole story: “This maker has made more than 35 movies but is out of job for nearly four years now. His last two films bombed in a big way and he was bankrupt. After collecting finance from a corporate house, he approached Nana for help. Seeing Nana at his Juhu office, Mehul felt very happy. Nana heard the script and was very happy too as it was solo hero project.”
So where was the problem? He adds, “Mehul got the shock of his life when Nana quoted Rs 8 crore as his acting fees. The filmmaker offered him Rs 2 crore, but Nana refused it saying that he is getting Rs 8 crore in the market.”
Guessing that Nana won’t budge, Mehul then gave him an offer of jointly producing the film and sharing the profit, seeing his confidence in recovering such a huge amount post release. But Nana did not reply to this offer and left the office. Now this has left Mehul Kumar high and dry, by the man he made in Hindi films.
