Recently, Ajay Devgan announced a film that would have wife Kajol in the lead role – a cause of jubilation for their fans. Ajay Devgan is riding waves of success for his recent Golmaal Returns, and the zeal is catching on. His next directorial venture after U Me Aur Hum, is his one of the most ambitious projects till date. The actor wants his film (unnamed) to be technically correct and he is leaving no stones unturned to achieve perfection. Ajay leaves Tusshar dumb struck!

A few days ago before leaving for Paris, when Ajay Devgan had a chat with Tusshar Kapoor about his next release Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Returns, little did Tusshar realise what was in store for him. Tusshar, who is presently in Tirupati, says, “Ajay saw Golmaal Returns before he left for London and Paris and told me that he appreciated my work in the film but I must be very particular about the dubbing. Ajay said to give myself completely to the character. I play a mute guy and it’s tougher for that to dub than actual dialogues. It was important that I experiment with my dubbing techniques and try something different. Ajay is a master at dubbing and he never takes more than one hour to dub for an entire film, so I took his advice seriously.” Tusshar says he practised so hard that after one particular scene, he lost his voice. “There was a particularly intense scene which had to be laughing continuously throughout and I dubbed so intensely that I lost my voice. I couldn’t dub for anything else that day and for the next couple of days. My sound recordist advised me to sip haldi, honey and milk for the two days till my voice became normal again. Though I play a mute, we don’t have too much of sign language in GR. It’s mostly body language which even the audiences will understand.”

Tusshar plays Kareena Kapoor’s brother, Lucky in Golmaal Returns. His ultimate goal is to see that his sister’s marriage remains intact.

Tony Blair’s wife invites Ajay for dinner

Ajay Devgan, who is presently shooting for Vipul Shah’s London Dreams on location, was invited to an annual charity gala dinner co-hosted by Mrs Cherie Blair (Britain’s ex-PM, Tony Blair’s wife) and the Loomba trust. The UK India Business Council hosts the prestigious event every year.The event took place last night at the Banqueting House, Whitehall and was attended by over 300 guests from both the British and Indian communities in London. London’s mayor Boris Johnson was guest of honour. Also present was the Indian High Commissioner.”Ajay Devgan was busy shooting but made it a point to attend, “Ajay specially requested producer-director Vipul Shah to grant him an early pack-up on October 2. Ana Singh designed a formal black suit for the evening.” Speaking from London, the actor says, “By attending the gala dinner, I will mark my support towards humanity and non-violence. Though Kajol too has been invited, I don’t think she will be able to make it.”The source adds, “The Loomba Trust is a charity organisation which gives practical help to widows and their children globally.

Ajay has always been proud to be affiliated to causes especially which are for women, children and about society. Ajay’s close friend Mandeep Kakkar is also a patron of the Loomba Trust (Cherie Blair is the President of the Trust). Mandeep has spoken about the deeds and charities which Ajay and Kajol support in India and that has impressed Cherie Blair. Hence the invitation has been extended only to the two of them.”

Ajay Devgan Floored by Rock On

Abhishek Kapoor’s Farhan Akhtar-starrer Rock On, has won a lot of admirers and fans. One of the fans of the movie is none other than actor Ajay Devgan. The latter, who is working in Vipul Shah’s London Dreams, now also wants the same kind of draw for his film. London Dreams is the story of two childhood friends who want to become rockstars. One of them succeeds in doing so, while the other fails to do so. The two friends will be played by Ajay and Salman Khan. The South Indian actress Asin is in the romantic lead opposite them. She plays a musician, who both the friends fall in love with. Post the release of Rock On, Ajay has been fired by the desire to make his film as big a draw among the youth as Kapoor’s movie. He is believed to be talking to director Shah about some changes which he thinks should be made in the film to ensure that it is huge hit with the young audience. It seems that initially when Salman and .he did a test shoot for the film, he was quite happy with the results. But post the release of Rock On, he is having second thoughts and is trying his best to persuade Shah to incorporate those changes. The film is expected to have musical tributes to the era of the Eighties and the Nineties. The music of the film will be composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the composers for Rock On as well. But Shah has rubbished these reports, claiming that Ajay is too professional to indulge in such behaviour. He was, however, quick to clarify that London Dreams is not like Rock On.

Bollywood star Ajay Devgan discharged from hospital

Good news for Ajay Devgan fans. The actor is doing fine now. While industry sources insisted that he was hospitalised for chest pains on Monday, a spokesperson for the Devgans’ maintained that he had gone to meet the doctor for his back pain. Evidently the problem wasn’t serious because Ajay Devgan was discharged in at 7.30 pm IST on the same day. Ajay Devgan, who was suffering from chest pain had been rushed to Holy Family Hospital in Bandra, Mumbai on Monday afternoon. The actor, accompanied by Rohit Shetty and Anil Devgan, was admitted to the hospital around 3 pm IST. Our source revealed, “Ajay experienced chest pain while shooting for his film, Toonpur Ka Superhero at Mehboob Studios. Of late the actor was also suffering from acute back pain.”

According to the latest reports, Ajay’s condition is much better and he has been discharged from his Bed No 1 on the first floor. Dr Brian Pinto was attending to him. Ajay had requested everyone at the hospital not to tell his family about his condition.

Ajay quits smoking

Admits Ajay Devgan, from the sets of Zee TV’s Rock N Roll Family, “Yes, I have completely quit smoking.” When quizzed about his inspiration, he replies tongue-in-cheek, “Well, the Health Minister has paid me more than the cigarette companies to quit smoking.”
Felt the urge
A source close to Devgan says, “Ajay quit smoking six days ago. He was down with fever and a bad cold last week and on an impulse, decided to kick the butt. Members of his family, wife Kajol and friends had been telling him to quit for years but Ajay’s logic was you-convince-me or I-convince-you, and he wasn’t convinced enough to quit smoking.”The source continues, “He loved smoking and health reasons weren’t enough to make him quit. Though he got a scare last year when Saif Ali Khan suffered a mini heart attack because of smoking, he didn’t stop but tried cutting down.But one day, Ajay felt the urge to quit, and he did. He hasn’t puffed even once in the last six days whereas earlier he would sneak off outside to his garden to smoke.”On-screen freedom, please!
Recently, in Bhopal, Devgan had joined Amitabh Bachchan, Saif Ali Khan and Sharmila Tagore in taking a dig at Health Minister Ambumani Ramadoss where he stressed that in a democracy everybody had the freedom of expression, so smoking or drinking on screen ought not be banned. Devgan says: “In the films, when we show someone smoking or drinking, it is for a reason. It is not to promote any cigarette brand or liquor.If we have to show some historical character; for instance, if I have to make a movie on Winston Churchill, what will I show? I can’t make the movie if there is a ban on showing cigarettes in the film. He used to always have a cigar in his hand. What do I show then? Should I show a lollipop in Churchill’s mouth? Everyone has his or her responsibilities in place. Everyone knows what is right and wrong for them.”

Now Ajay Devgan to direct action flick

After the encouraging response to his directorial debut “U, Me Aur Hum”, Ajay Devgan is thinking of directing an action flick next.“I’ve two subjects ready and I may decide to do either one, depending on what I feel right. After a very serious subject, I may decide to do a lighter film,” Ajay told “In fact, I’m seriously thinking of doing an actioner. If I do, it’d be very different from the stunts that we see in other films. But there definitely will be an undercurrent of a serious social message through the film for sure,” he added.Life comes a full circle for Ajay since he started his acting career with an action film “Phool Aur Kante” 15 years ago. But the competition doesn’t bother him.“I’ve always worked at my own pace. That’s going to change now. After ‘U, Me Aur Hum’, I can’t afford to be lazy. At the same time I’ve never bothered with what others do. Why should that change?”However, Ajay isn’t willing to give up his comic connections.“‘Golmaal Returns’ is much funnier than the first film and far more glossier,” said Ajay, who’s currently in Goa shooting for the last schedule of the comedy.“After this we’ve just one song left and then we’re done,” said the actor, who gets together with Kareena Kapoor for the second time after “Omkara”. The two films are world apart. “You can say that again! But then you can’t be doing only serious cinema all the time. Audiences like watching light films. So I’ll continue being part of them.”

Ajay Devgan: I’m a born director

Keeping his fingers crossed ahead of the release of his directorial debut U, Me aur Hum, Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan says he is going to continue directing good entertaining movies whether the film clicks or not at the box office. Devgan says that for him it was not a major shift from acting to direction as he believes that he is a born director and has that fire within him. “I started my career directing small budget films, so it was not a major change. In my early days, apart from acting in movies, I tried my hand in production, direction, music composing and all,” Devgan says. “I assisted my father in his directorial ventures several times and both of us knew that I have the flame in me to develop an idea and give it a shape. But then, I became an actor and didn’t get the time to direct.” Devgan is very positive about the success of his first directorial attempt. He believes he has done justice with the script and has come out with a entertaining story. “I will continue with direction as it is my favourite hobby or you can say a passion. I will not make a movie only for the sake of it, but will do it only when a right script will come my way,” says the actor, who has won two national awards for best actor for his role in “Zakhm”, and “Legend of Bhagat Singh”. But that does not mean curtains down for him as an actor as Devgan says his acting career will continue side-by-side. Though a veteran in Bollywood, Devgan hopes that the film, in which his wife Kajol co-stars him, will be an entertainer.

Once tipped as the ‘action hero’ of Indian cinema, versatile Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan, who turned 39 Wednesday, has proved his mettle in every genre. This year, he also turns director with “U, Me Aur Hum”. Ajay got an early birthday gift Tuesday when his entire family landed up on the sets of Zee TV’s reality show “Rock N’ Roll”, which he is hosting with wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja. The family arrived to cut a cake with him.His parents Veeru and Veena Devgan, sisters Neelam and Kavita and his nephew Aman were part of the entourage.”I was pleasantly surprised, considering my parents never go on television. It was one of the most beautiful gifts I’ve ever received,” said Ajay.After a successful acting career spanning 16 years, the actor wanted to make a film through which he told people a story he really believes in.”People often ask me if this is the right time to venture into direction. Frankly speaking, I don’t know whether it is the right time or not, but I have always wanted to tell people a story I strongly believe in.”I had this story idea in my mind for a long time and then I sat and wrote it down. Later when I gradually developed the screenplay, I felt that unless I directed the film myself, it would not be presented the way I want it to be,” Ajay told.Even before he started off as an action hero in the 1991 hit film “Phool Aur Kaante” for which he won the Filmfare award for best debutant actor, Ajay had worked with internationally acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur as an assistant director.”I had worked with Shekhar and when I was eight or nine years old, I also used to take part in editing and other technical areas of filmmaking with my father,” he said.The actor has been among the first few of his generation to turn producer. In 1999 and 2000 he produced “Hindustan Ki Kasam” and “Raju Chacha”. Though the films bombed at the box-office, Ajay is now confident that his directorial debut releasing this month will do well.Early in his career Ajay showed his penchant for action in films like “Jigar” (1992), “Divya Shakti” (1992), “Vijaypath”(1994), “Hulchul” (1995) and others that one could only expect from the son of well-known action director Veeru Devgan.In 1999, Ajay married his co-star and friend Kajol and they have a four-year-old daughter named Nyasa. The couple will be seen together after a long time in “U, Me Aur Hum”.After his action period, Ajay surprised the audience with his comic performances in “Ishq” (1997), “Golmaal - Fun Unlimited” (2006) and his ability to emote in “Pyaar Toh Hona Hi Tha” (1998) and “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam” (1999).His powerful acting in “Zakhm” (1998), “The Legend of Bhagat Singh” (2002), “Company” (2002), “GangaaJal” (2003), “Yuva” (2004), “Raincoat” (2004), “Omkara” (2006) and others won him critical acclaim.On the actor’s versatility, director Rajkumar Santoshi, who has made some of his best films with Ajay, said: “One of his strengths is that he can get under the skin of any well-written role and make it his own.
