Akshay Kumar Beats Shahrukh Khan!

Bollywood big wig Shahrukh Khan and the new pretender to his crown Akshay Kumar both were in the running for a major TV guest appearance, but it is Akki who has been chosen… read on to find out more about this exclusive news. Apparently, King Khan and Kinng Kumar both raised interest in appearing as guests for the final episode in TV reality show Bigg Boss 2 on 22nd November. But, the producers of the show have unexpectedly turned down Shahrukh Khan and have gone ahead and accepted Akshay Kumar’s offer.A source says, “The TRP rating are expected to be the highest at the time of the finale. Since their respective movies Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and the animated Jumbo are slated to release soon, they would get maximum mileage through the show. Ultimately it was Akshay who walked away with the deal.

Now that is not all… the interesting part of this whole situation is that Akshay Kumar will at last come face to face with his former lover Shilpa Shetty. Shilpa is the host of Bigg Boss 2 and will be responsible for interviewing Akshay Kumar.

Akshay shoots for Jumbo

Percept Picture Company’s Jumbo is certainly taking jumbo strides to make their animation flick larger than life. Akshay Kumar who has been signed on to lend his voice, is now going a step further to shoot for the film. Pooja Kashyap, Vice President of PPC who is handling the project, was surprised when we asked her about Akki’s shooting stint for the film. After a short silence, she said, “I am doing something important and I will call you back.” To suffice, Pooja never called back. However, our sources have revealed that Akshay after completing his shooting schedule for Sajid Nadiadwala’s Kambhaqt Ishq in Mumbai, will be leaving for Matheran to shoot for the film. We have been told that the filming is only for a few hours as he has to shoot for Nadiadwala the following morning. Akki’s designer Shabina Khan said, “All I was instructed by Akki to be in Matheran for Jumbo’s shoot, with some outfits. Nothing specific was mentioned. So I will be carrying a couple of jeans, tees and shirts for him.” No half measures for this Khiladi. After seizing the numero uno position from Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar is going all out to ensure that all his films are being presented in a big platform.

No fat paychecks for Salman and Akshay

Producers are reneging on contracts that involve fat paychecks to Bollywood actors Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar, in deference of the liquidity crunch and the poor box office collections of some recent big budget films. T Series, which had signed a Rs 50 crore deal with Salman Khan for a film to be directed by Anees Bazmee, has now asked the actor to reduce his paycheck. Similarly, UTV, which had agreed to pay Akshay Kumar Rs 60 crore, now wants the actor to reduce his price. The belt tightening is across the board and not limited to actor paychecks. T-Series has also asked Pooja Bhatt to reduce the budget of her new film Kajra Re featuring Himesh Reshammiya, Mona Laizza and Amrita Singh. The tepid box office performance of Reshammiya starrer Karzzzz has not helped the prospects of T-Series selling Kajra Re to Reliance BIG Entertainment for the same price that it got for Karzzzz. Indeed, Studio 18 has shelved Reshammiya starrer Hhey Gujju, which it had announced in June. Other recent big budget films that have bitten the dust include Drona and Kidnap.

UTV head honcho, Ronnie Screwvala says the success of movies like Aamir, A Wednesday and Welcome to Sajjanpur has encouraged him to favor small-budget movies, though “we will continue to make big-budget movies with dependable partners, but the projects will be evaluated judiciously.”

Akshay, Vipul back again

Basking in the super success of Singh is Kinng, producer Vipul Shah is set to make a sequel to the comedy and has signed on favourite actor Akshay Kumar for it. However, he plans to make another film with the actor before that. “After doing Waqt, Namastey London and Singh is Kinng, we had to do something that would take us into another zone. My next film with Akshay pushes the envelope even more. After that there’s the Singh Is Kinng sequel which I’d like Anees Bazmi to direct. But he’s very busy. So it depends on him,” said Shah. Shah has quietly finished the script for his next film starring Akshay while shooting “London Dreams”, an India-Britain co-production which went on floors last month. Shah has signed Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan to play lead roles in London Dreams but clarifies that Akshay will remain a common feature in most of his films. “You see Akshay remains a constant. But like I said I am working with Ajay and Salman for the first time. And I felt equally at home. So I’ll be working with them again for sure,” he said. Shah has also signed a two-film deal with 20th Century Fox. One of these films would be a big special effects spectacle again featuring Akshay.

So where did all the rumours of a rift with Akshay come from?

“Search me,” Vipul laughs. “I was committed to this Goan holiday from long before. There was no way I could disappoint my sons. Akshay himself flew down from South Africa for just a day for his party and went back. So it was all done in a rush. Just because I don’t attend his party we’ve become enemies? What kind of logic is that? We’ve decided to have our own private Diwali bash as soon as he returns on Nov 11. We’re also announcing the details of our next film together very shortly.”

Akshay proves he is KING KUMAR by jumping off a cliff

We all know that he is the Kinng of Bollywood, and we have seen him on numerous occasions doing his own death-defying stunts, but now comes the ultimate test for Akshay Kumar… to jump of a 160 feet high cliff… read on to find out if King Kumar did it or not!
For his next action thriller Eight By Ten, Akshay was given the task of throwing himself of a clip. No problem, our Kinng did it without a second thought. Director Nagesh Kukunoor explains, “This is the first time that I am doing an action film and when you have someone like Akshay, things are easier. There are a couple of breathtaking action sequences in the film. This particular sequence was earlier supposed to be shot in Canada during our first schedule. The scene required Akshay to sprint from a long distance and jump into the water. Though we did some rehearsals with a duplicate, the fall was done by him in one take and it was amazing. Though we all freaked out, Akshay was absolutely cool about it.”Now when you go and ask Akki about this, he humbly replies, “I love doing action scenes and that’s about it.”

Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta have been bonding big time since they acted together in Priyadarshan’s Bhaagam Bhag. Our source revealed, “Though Akshay and Lara have known each other since the Andaaz days and have done films together earlier too, of late, a great friendship has developed between the two. Lara particularly enjoyed Akshay’s sense of humour.” Buzz in the industry has it, that Akshay is now strongly promoting Lara. Besides Blue, Akshay even got Lara to dub for an animation film called Jumbo. Our source added, “Lara has dubbed and not charged a single penny for it. Lara feels that Akshay has been helpful to her.”When contacted Lara diplomatically said, “Yes it is true that I have dubbed for Jumbo. Akshay asked me to see the film and then decide if I wanted to do it. I saw it and thought that it was a very sweet film. So, I dubbed for it. Jumbo is my gift to my junior audience. It is my first animation film and so I did not want to charge for it.”

Shailendra Singh, the MD of the production house involved, said, “Lara has a sweet voice and so we roped her in to dub for Jumbo.”

Aamir & Akshay’s one more clash!

Last year when Aamir Khan’s directorial debut TAARE ZAMEEN PAR and Akshay Kumar starrer WELCOME, directed by Anees Bazmee, had hit the screens (during the Christmas occasion) on the same day, huge speculations were made as to who would come out with flying colours since both the superstars have equal star power. But nothing of that sort happened and both the movies belonging to their respective genres did exceedingly well at the box–office. Both the films were among the top grossers of the year.
Now the two superstars might once again clash at the Box–office during the same time i.e. Christmas & again in different genres with Aamir Khan starrer action–packed GHAJINI and animation movie JUMBO in Akshay Kumar’s voice. While Aamir Khan’s much hyped GHAJINI is already confirmed for 26th December than Akshay Kumar’s JUMBO has kept a tentative release date of 18th December which is a week before Aamir Khan’s GHAJINI. However it is yet to be confirmed whether JUMBO would release on the same date when GHAJINI hits the screens or on the said date.

Even if the two hit the same day we hope both turn out to be super duper hits like their earlier counterparts – TZP and WELCOME.

Akshay Kumar to return for second series of Fear Factor

Akshay Kumar to return for second series of Fear Factor on Colors.The much appreciated TV reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi, which was hosted by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar and screened on newly launched channel Colors, is to return for a second series. Reveals a source, “Akshay has agreed to reprise his role as the host of the action-adventured-based reality show. While the first season was 13 weeks long, the second will be longer. Fear Factor was a huge success for the channel. And they were thrilled with their choice of the host. The connect was perfect as Akki is an action-junkie. And he was professionalism personified. A natural in front of the camera, the actor went that extra mile and was also involved in the creative aspects of the show as well.”

The second season will have male contestants in addition to female ones. Akshay Kumar is currently busy with other work but will soon give dates for the shooting.

Akshay confirms he will replace Amitabh in Deepa Mehta film

Akshay Kumar has himself confirmed that he will be replacing Amitabh Bachchan in Oscar nominated director Deepa Meht’as Komgata Maru. Akshay Kumar says, “I’m not used to working with the Oscar nominated directors so it is a great privilege to work with Deepa Mehta. The subject of this film has moved me, as it is a true representation and a testimony to human struggles for freedom, justice and equality. I want to portray this real life tragedy to the world identifying how injustice was done to innocent people. It is an hour for me to play one of the bravest Sikhs, Gurdit Singh, in this tragic forgotten moment in history. I salute those brave souls who sacrificed their lives for justice and equality today.”As to why Amitabh Bachchan was dropped from the film… this is not known. “This is an extremely important opportunity for me to reveal a significant moment in Canadian history and illustrate the steadfast bravery of the Sikh community who sacrificed so much to help create a more tolerant community within my adopted country,” says Deepa Mehta. Komagata Maru is a Canadian production being produced by Hamilton-Mehta Production Inc. in association with Akshay Kumar’s home production, Hari Om Entertainment.

The film’s budget ranges from $ 30-35 million dollars approximate and is currently in pre-production. It will begin full production in September 2009. The story will be filmed in various locations around the world. The film will be distributed in Canada by Mongrel Media.

Akshay Kumar lures Superman to India

Akshay Kumar is going places. The actor who is enjoying box office success and the status of numero uno in Bollywood is slowly broadening his horizons. Better known as Superman from the Superman series, Brandon Routh has been roped in by producer Sajid Nadiadwala for his magnum opus, Kambhaqt Ishq. Nadiadwala is getting the who’s who of Hollywood to star in his film that is being directed by newbie director Sabir Khan. After Slyvester Stallone and Denise Richards, it is Brandon Routh.A source present on the sets revealed, “Akshay and Brandon had to perform a stunt scene together. It was the most crucial scene of the film. It was the most dangerous too. Brandon was very impressed with Akshay after watching him perform dangerous stunts for the film. He was surprised that in Bollywood actors performed the stunt scenes themselves.”"Also both the stars exchanged tips on fitness action and martial arts.

It was fun to see them bond. Brandon was very happy working with the team of Kambakkth… It is difficult to get him considering his phenomenol popularity as Superman,” disclosed our source.
