Bollywood legend Shah Rukh Khan has postponed a controversial ceremony to award him a Malaysian “knighthood” because he is too busy, according to officials. Khan is to be presented with an award from southern Malacca state which carries the title “Datuk”, equivalent to a British knighthood, after a 2001 film set in Malacca boosted its profile as a tourist destination. The award has proved contentious, with some questioning whether Khan is deserving or whether local artists and celebrities should be recognised instead. “The ceremony has been postponed for now,” a senior Malacca official told AFP on condition of anonymity.”We wanted the ceremony to take place over a weekend but Shah Rukh’s schedule was such that we could not agree on a date so we are now working on a new one that will keep everyone happy, but it hasn’t been fixed yet,” he said.Since the filming of Khan’s 2001 movie, “One 2 Ka 4″ at a popular resort in Malacca, the number of tourists coming from India has increased significantly, state officials say.

The 42-year-old heart-throb was to have received his award on November 29, in a ceremony aired live on India’s top entertainment channel, Zee TV. “The postponement of the award shows just how ridiculous it is to give such an award to Shah Rukh as Malaysia and the award most probably does not even picture on his radar,” opposition politician Lim Kit Siang told AFP. Malaysia has become a popular location for Indian films, which have a huge following among ethnic Indians and the majority Muslim-Malays.

The war between the two czars is getting political and we mean that literally. With charismatic personalities and celeb aura, the two Khans have plenty of friends outside the Bollywood circle. While Sallu has been infamous for exercising his political connections to get out of tight spots, Shah Rukh Khan on the other hand has been very public about his good rapport with the first political family of the nation, the Gandhis. Whether it’s the IPL matches or the special screening of his films; Rahul Ganhi, his sister Priyanka and her hubby Robert Vadhera have made their presence felt and in turn have been accorded VVIP treatment. But looks like, the Gandhis have switched sides now. At the marriage reception pasrty of Milind Deora and Pooja Shetty, Rahul Gandhi was spotted getting along jolly well with SRK’s archrival Salman Khan.

A news daily quoted an eyewitness as saying, “Shah Rukh is very close to the Shettys and had come to bless the newly wedded couple with wife Gauri, and friend Karan Johar. Salman was present with his group of people. Rahul spent most of his time chatting with Sallu’s group. He did exchange pleasantries with Gauri and spoke to Khan for a few minutes but the majority of his time was spent with the ‘other’ Khan.

While the two Khans continued to ignore each other at the party, Salman was once again heard filling the guests ears with all kinds of talk against King Khan. Sallu kept the guest entertained by talking of SRK’s initial struggling years and how he had provided a roof to King Khan.

It looks like Salman just can’t get over the past and move on. Be it the love of his life Aishwarya Rai or friend turned foe Shah Rukh; it seems Sallu just can’t live and let live.

There seems to be no end to the bitter spat between Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan. Just when things were looking good Salman has again taken a dig at King Khan. In an interview with a foreign magazine when quizzed about Shahrukh Khan to everyone’s shock Salman asked “Who is SRK? I have never heard of him before”Salman did not even spare his eternal enemy Vivek Oberoi either and called him an ‘idiot’ who would stand next to the celebrities to get his photograph clicked. His only praise turned out to be for the Bachchan family and he said he loved pairing with Amitabh Bachchan in Baghban and Baabul and also working in a flick with Abhishek Bachchan.
Well Salman it seems is having serious memory lapse or else he would have who known Shahrukh Khan is. If not for his status in the industry certainly for the spat he had with him during Katrina Kaif’s birthday bash.

Apparently, King Khan and Kinng Kumar both raised interest in appearing as guests for the final episode in TV reality show Bigg Boss 2 on 22nd November. But, the producers of the show have unexpectedly turned down Shahrukh Khan and have gone ahead and accepted Akshay Kumar’s offer.A source says, “The TRP rating are expected to be the highest at the time of the finale. Since their respective movies Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and the animated Jumbo are slated to release soon, they would get maximum mileage through the show. Ultimately it was Akshay who walked away with the deal.

Now that is not all… the interesting part of this whole situation is that Akshay Kumar will at last come face to face with his former lover Shilpa Shetty. Shilpa is the host of Bigg Boss 2 and will be responsible for interviewing Akshay Kumar.

Hindi film industry’s fortunes are tied to three major films featuring Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan to be released next month.

December could well turn out to be the crucial month for the Hindi film industry. If Bollywood’s three forthcoming films starring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan in Ghazni, Yuvraaj, and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, respectively, become commercially hit then 2008 may prove to be a good year for the Hindi film industry, especially at the time of the economic slowdown.

Releasing in December, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi…is a Yashraj film featuring Shah Rukh Khan and the newcomer Anushka Sharma in the lead roles. Yuvraaj is a Subhash Ghai film with Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Katrina Kaif and others while Aamir Khan’s Ghazni is the re-make of a superhit Tamil film.

Surprisingly, despite a poor start at the beginning of this year, so far, 2008 has seen about 8-10 per cent increase in the box-office collections of the top 10 Hindi films compared to those in 2007.

According to film experts and leading trade portals, these numbers are based on the overall box-office collections including those reported from the overseas market and from the sale of TV rights, among others.

This means, that the top 10 Hindi films released this year — among them, Singh Is Kinng, Jodhaa Akbar, Race and Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, have generated more cash at the box-office than the top 10 films of 2007 like Om Shanti Om, Welcome and Taare Zameen Par. All eyes are now set on the three important releases of the three Khans of Bollywood.

“It’s a little early to bring out the calculators. But initial estimates are that Bollywood has so far seen over Rs 800 crore in box-office collections from its top 10 films compared to Rs 740 crore generated by the top ten flicks of 2007,” says a film analyst from Mumbai on condition of anonymity.

However, according to him, if the Aamir, Salman and Shah Rukh Khan films to be released next month don’t do well, then the 2007 story may look slightly better compared to the current year.

Says a senior executive of a Delhi-based multiplex chain: “We suffered a dip in the box-office collections because of Indian Premier League earlier this year. A lot is riding on Shah Rukh Khan , Aamir and Salman Khan films and we expect the audience to come to the theatre to watch them.”

Last year, it was Om Shanti Om (November 2007), Welcome (December 2007) and Taare Zameen Par (December 2007) that made the cash registers ring for the Hindi film industry. “We are hoping for an encore with the three December releases this year,” says a trade analyst.

Driven by the dream of meeting his idol Shah Rukh Khan and making a career for himself in Bollywood, Nasir had crossed into Indian Punjab wearing his school uniform and carrying his school bag on August 16.“I thank Allah. Just the thought of being able to see my mother and brothers makes me shiver with excitement,” the newspaper quoted Nasir as saying while reacting to the news about his release.“My studies suffered a lot,” he said. “Now I’ll work hard for the coming 10th class exam”. He promised that he would never think of crossing the border without valid documents. “Can I now meet Shahrukh?” he asked innocently, according to the report.

A Pakistani High Commission official told the newspaper that he was awaiting details of all those granted consular access to the boy in Amritsar recently. daily times monitor

They teach you a lot,” Khan, who is paired against newcomer Anushka Sharma in his forthcoming film ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, said during an interaction with media persons.”They (newcomers) are not over-awed by the fact that you have done 60 films. They respect you a lot but do their own stuff,” he said.”I see them responding to expressions in a new way and I get to learn. They help me be a better actor,” he added.Khan’s tryst with newcomers began in 1993 when he was paired against Suchitra Krishnamurthy in the commercially and critically successful ‘Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa’.The ‘Baadshah’ of Bollywood later went on to star with Mahima Chaudhary (Pardes-1997), Preity Zinta (Dil Se-1998), Gayatri Joshi (Swades-2004) and with the ‘Chak-De’ girls and last year with Deepika Padukone in ‘Om Shanti Om’. On ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’, Khan said, the film deals with the trials and tribulations of husband-wife relationships.”The film is an entertainer that is intriguing as well as thrilling and deals with the relationship that exists between a middle-class husband and wife,” he said. Incidentally, the movie is King Khan’s first release in 14 months.

“I haven’t had a release for a long time because of my schedules but I believe that this movie will fulfil the ‘kasar’ of the past 14 months. ‘Rab Ne Bana…’ is the last release of the year but not at all the least,” he added. While his ‘Haule-Haule’ jig in the film is getting popular, Shahrukh remains modest about his dancing abilities. “I am not being modest but truly this ‘Pappu can’t dance saala. I genuinely have two left feet,” he said.

Salman Khan has been doing his round of interviews in preparation of impending release Yuvvraaj, and has once again taken the opportunity to bash his once good friend Shah Rukh Khan.

The hurt within Salman’s heart was once more noticeable in his interview for Mid-Day newspaper. When asked as to why he was telling his family members to keep away from Shah Rukh, he denied saying this, “No I haven’t told them that. If they want to participate in SRK’s family events they are more than welcome to do that. But don’t you think that it’s a kind of a joke that from one side it’s straight from the heart from one family and from one family it’s straight from the brain? Oh yeh Salman ke behalf pe aa rahe hai so he (Salman) looks like a fool. Yeh sabko bulaya gaya, yeh sab aayenge, they are all here, so Salman must be wrong. Because my family is socialising at SRK’s family events!”

Salman then went onto state that it was Shah Rukh who told the media about their little disagreement. “As soon as Shah Rukh left the party, he started calling up the media! I didn’t speak till one week after the fight because he was trying to put me in the middle of something which is not cool from any angle! That is the time I stood up and started speaking. There is no reason for disrespect. Everybody messes up. I have messed up also not once but so many times, without any malice, any manipulation or agenda. If things go wrong between two buddies we say ‘okay buddy let’s hang out together and sort it out’ but if you are going to mess up and disrespect me then forget it,” said a tearful Salman.

Responding to Shah Rukh’s statement of Salman only thinking with his heart, he says, “The right side of my head is my heart. I will always do what is right. I am human man! I am trying to be human. I have lots of flaws but I am taking care of that. But there are some things I don’t have jealousy, incompetence, insecurity and maliciousness. I don’t have a temper either, though I may get angry. And if I am wrong, I have the courage to call up and apologise. Say sorry and I am fine. What I say is what I do. I don’t say something and do something else and think of something totally different.”

Fellow Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has offered to mediate between the two but Salman has refused this. Why? “No. I don’t want anybody playing mediator. Whatever I had to speak on SRK, I said it then straight out. It’s SRK’s choice to say whatever sweet things he’s saying now four months later.”

By reading the above comments by Salman one does feel sadness for him. Here is a man who has genuinely been hurt by a close friend. Here at RS we feel for Salman and hope that both he and Shah Rukh will come to becoming friends once more. After all this back-biting is not helping either of them.

All three Khan’s Aamir, Salman and Shahrukh, have releases coming up and coincidentally (not really) decided to give us a sneak peak first view of their latest ventures at around the same time. Diwali showed us Aamir Khan with his new hairstyle and lean body in Ghajini followed by Shahrukh sporting a moustache, white shirt and beige trousers in his simple love story “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” and lastly Salman Khan with his long locks and sporting his warrior like look for Veer. Experimental is the keyword here with all Khans attempting something new, whether it is their looks or the characters they are portraying. Additionally, the female stars in each of the movies are debuting in Bollywood with the Khans. Quite a bunch of similarities here. While all three are out to be prove that they reign supreme, the competition is on to see which Khan takes the crown at the box office when their respective flicks do release.

It’s close to midnight at Mannat. And Shah Rukh Khan, having put the kids to bed and packed off the last of his visitors, is in conversation with me over coffee and cigarettes. He’s most at home in low-slung jeans from under which his briefs boldly peep, a loose tee and sneakers. But then he is at home! And we are in his living room. Gauri Khan’s living room, actually, whose size, furniture, colour, lights and other trappings are so amazingly spectacular, they take the breath away. Shah Rukh and the kids are not allowed to run wild in here. “But when Gauri’s not around, we do everything, we even let the dog pee,” he says, eyes crinkling in mischief and the mouth twisting in that famous lop-sided grin. At this hour, he’s wide awake and sharp as a whip. Somewhere in the house, his trainer Prashant is asleep. When he feels like it, even if it is 2 am, Shah Rukh will wake him up and workout for 35 minutes. “I like to sweat,” he tells me. “I train non-stop, there’s no rest break, no music, this is not rocket science — I just do a circuit of exercises, then have a bath and eat some food.”

But we aren’t talking workouts, nor films, not even Salman Khan. We are talking about Shah Rukh himself. He surprises me by saying, “I’m a schizo on the loose. I’m two people, Shah Rukh 1 and 2. One works for the other. The guy I’m working for is hugely successful — but he’s not me. People say I play Shah Rukh Khan. My roles are a means to an end. Not true. My work defines me. But I have no identity of my own. My identity is that of my employer who is employed by the audience.”This is the same actor, the story goes, who manipulates people and controls Bollywood. “Control is a strong word,” Shah Rukh protests, “I don’t have power, though I’m listed on the power list along with Mukeshbhai and Laxmi Mittal. Yet, because I’m a giver, I’m able to draw a lot of people on my side. Greatness and goodness lies in giving. I like to believe that a lot of people come on board because they want to do things for me. They’re givers, too. I don’t have to ask people to join me.

So if I control Bollywood, it is by giving — not taking, nobody gives to a taker. I’m giving, these people are giving, somewhere there is a symbiotic relationship. But, I think, your idea of ‘control’ is me picking up the phone and saying, ‘Bhai, mera picture ka sab show full jana chahiye,’ right?”
I dodge the question by asking, at 43, how many years of good cinema he’s got left. Poker faced, he replies, “Eighty-seven! I believe that physically, emotionally, and cinematically I’m unbreakable. Time is a measure of frailty. And good cinema is like good thoughts… not bound by anything. Acting can’t be written about, talked, discussed, analysed, because 90 per cent of the words used to describe acting are expressionless. You’ve got to feel acting. That’s what I do. I’ve stopped giving time to myself. The last 20 years have been my best period. I run my own race. If you run long enough, you can beat the rest, because this race is of length… not time. I enjoy making films. But I’m not attached to their success or failure. In fact, I’m detached from my films. Once they’re made — I let go. Films are mini life. By Friday night, I’m already moving on. My directors get disturbed!”

He never even sees his own films, at least not with the thought of enjoying them, nor anybody else’s either… unless it’s important to them. Ditto the family. “Gauri and I have brought up our kids to think their Dad’s films are nothing special,” reveals Shah Rukh. “And that, in life, it’s not special to be special, but it’s special to be ordinary. My films are all about that. I show the inside of a good outside hero. You know, the Clark Kent behind Superman. If he were to fly and save the world would you think less of him because he isn’t cool and doesn’t wear tights? My life’s like that. I may live like a king, but I’m ordinary in my beliefs, I’m simple, ugly and boring… yet I’m happy to be me.”And, why not, which ordinary man romances the sexiest heroines on screen? “So what,” Shah Rukh asks, “I love them all, I share close relationships with them, but I don’t kiss them on screen, and I don’t have sex with them off screen. I’m somewhat conventional. I don’t think sex outside is bad. But I have a beautiful wife at home. I think real men are those that respect women; those that make no external show of their manhood; those that are gentle and kind… it’s okay to be dandy and look pansy instead of trying to be macho; and, those that open doors for women. If you can be charming, laugh, and don’t let them feel all you want to do is get them in bed… the girls will love you. I’m a ladies man.

I’m okay with talk of my being gay and bisexual. I’m man enough to be in touch with my sensitive side. I can be happy and still cry. I don’t need to prove I’m heterosexual. Except to my son… when I show him I still have the six-pack.”He’s opening up now, but it’s late. He steps outdoors to see me off. “I go to the rooftop and pray to the stars,” he says, surprising me for the second time that night. “Two of the stars are my parents. But I pray for simple things. That my son does well in his tae-kwon-do championship. And that my daughter is happy with her painting. I tell my mom, ‘Where you’ve gone, you can put yourself to some good use.’ There has to be some kind of trade-off for the loss of my parents. But I also read the Quran, I pray in Arabic, English, Hindi hoping that God is multi-lingual and understands at least one of my prayers. Gauri recites the Gayatri Mantra. Our kids do both. This house is amazing. My daughter asks, ‘Are we Pathans or Punjabis?’ I confuse them by saying, ‘We are Christians!’’’
