Bipasha collects what Salman dumps

It was reported that Salman Khan would be performing on the 31st night at Sahara Star. It is said that Sahara had approached Salman to perform for the New Year’s Eve and he agreed for a price of Rs.3 crores. Arbaaz, Sohail and Malaika would also perform with him.However, the latest we hear is that Salman is out of the event and Bipasha Basu has been asked to perform in his place for the New Years Eve. It is said that the sponsors could not afford Salman’s price. In spite of having several discussions with Salman for the last ten days over the price Salman did not agree to compromise on his price.Actually it is said that the sponsors had made a deal of Rs.3.5 crores with the organisers, therefore they had agreed to pay Salman the said amount but after lots of talks they finally agreed to pay Salman the price of Rs.2 crores on which Salman refused flatly. Whether brothers Arbaaz, Sohail and Malaika would still perform or not is unknown.

In all it is said that Bipasha has been convinced to perform with a price of Rs.1 crore, whereas last year she had performed at J.W. Mariott for just Rs.90 lakhs for a 30 minute performance.

Bipasha gives the reason behind fleeing Kashmir

Last Saturday, Bipasha Basu stormed out of the shoot of Lamhaa in Srinagar, apparently leaving not just the unit and director Rahul Dholakia in the lurch, but also Sanjay Dutt who had landed that day to shoot with her. Nobody knows what freaked the actress out for her to leave in the middle of the shoot and rush back to Mumbai. Apparently, she didn’t give Dholakia any explanation before leaving except, ‘you won’t understand, you’re not a woman.’ The actress clears the air about her abrupt departure, “We had agreed to shoot in Srinagar as we all wanted to capture the beauty and authenticity of the region but the situation got a little tricky. The government and the Srinagar officials have been supportive and have helped us with permissions, security and hospitality but as is common in most places, even they couldn’t help with the impact of fan following and crowd frenzy.” The next schedule will not take place in Kulu-Manali next week. However she doesn’t like the implication that she fled Kashmir, “My departure wasn’t abrupt. I tried for seven days and realised the risk taken wasn’t helping as we hardly shot.

It’s got nothing to do with me being strong. I am very strong but I understood it was impossible to continue there. At the same time, my family and friends were extremely worried about me. The only big scene we shot was on a day of curfew. Hence, post talking to my producer (Bunty Walia) and Sanju (Sanjay Dutt), I decided to leave for Mumbai.”The actress continues, “Shooting in Srinagar had to be cancelled a couple of times due to the large numbers of over-enthusiastic locals gathering to watch the shoot. Ample security provided couldn’t help keep them at bay at times. I tried my best.”There’s another buzz that Bipasha left because of Sanjay Dutt. Apparently Dutt said or did something that upset her. However Bipasha clarifies, “Please! Sanju is one of the finest co-stars and human beings I have ever worked with. This is not my first film (Rakht) with him. So please do not look for any baseless complications.”

“Bipasha had been cooperative throughout the shoot in Srinagar. She braved the crowds at all times until Saturday when the situation got a little tricky while shooting at Anantnag. She spoke to Sanju and me and left for Mumbai. We shall resume the shoot in Kulu Manali this week itself, the crew is already shifting base.”

Bips kept the guests guessing

Last week, actress Bipasha Basu came to town to be a part of a high-end gala do. Looking pretty in a little purple Bipash adress, Bips managed to keep the guests aflutter with her presence. She also got loads of compliments for her outfit. In attendence at the do were the city’s regular party-goers and fashion designers. Suneet Verma chatted with Ravi Bajaj for quite a long time. Nikhil and Shantanu Mehra came with their wives Vidushi and Rima. That’s what guests and shutterbugs kept speculating about Bipasha. The lady went out of the hall a number of times and came back. Evertime she stepped out, everyone wondered if she had left. Bips sure knows how to keep everyone interested when she is around. Sakti’s wife, Maite found an admirer in designer Rahul Jain. He said, “Look at Maite. She is a French lady but is dressed in a traditional Indian saree and it shows how well she has accepted Indian culture. I like women as they adapt themselves to various cultures.”

Vidya Balan walks out on Bips’ boy John Abraham

Once being termed as a home-wrecker, Vidya Balan seems to have learnt her lessons the hard way. The actress has walked herself to safe distance from Bipasha’s baby John Abraham and is declining to do any films with the macho actor.Even as John dared to snub girlfriend Bipasha’s pleas demanding him not to work with Vidya and signed a film featuring the heavy weight actress, his daring act proved futile as the dusky beauty refused to be a part of the film.According to Spicezee sources, John was all set to romance Vidya onscreen in David Dhawan’s forthcoming ‘Hook Ya Crook’. The film that is touted to be a comic caper was going to bring together the much famous ‘Salaam-E-Ishq’ couple, but the plans went haywire as Vidya decided to opt out of the flick quoting unsubstantial role as reasons for her refusal to do the film.A news daily even quoted a source as saying “Vidya is not doing UTV’s ‘Hook Ya Crook’. Vidya felt that after Salaam-e-Ishq, she and John needed to do a film, which had substantial roles for both.

She voiced her concern to the director who promised to make changes in her role. Vidya wants to do more women-oriented roles.”However, insiders are of the opinion that it’s Bipasha that is real reason behind Vidya’s refusal. After their earlier episode, Vidya no longer wants to pick fights with the feisty Bips.
Well, all we can say is better safe than sorry.

Bipasha Basu spells her magic again!

Bips aka Bipasha Basu is all set to cast her “jaadu and nasha”on screen once again. This time it is in Sanjay Gupta’s ankh directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay. Interestingly, Bipasha is a mere fantasy of the 20-year-old protagonist Jerry (Maradona Rebello) and does not actually exist in the film. Explaining the complexity of the story director Chattopadhyay said, “Bipasha is Jerry’s fantasy who exists only his mind. She is his alter-ego and loves to provoke him at a drop of her hat”. Sudipto further explains, “The character of Jerry is very complexed. The film shows him as a famous child artiste who crossed dressed as a girl. Thus he is confused about his identity. There’s a song, Jiya na Jala, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, where he fantasizes Bipasha seducing him, creating confusion in his mind about his real identity whether he is a man, woman or an eunuch. But Bipasha seduces him completely and is his sexual fantasy. Bipasha is his only solace from the ugly reality of life”. The director reveals that he and designers Rocky S and Gavin Miguel worked hard on Bipasha’s look in the film. “We wanted Bipasha to look like a Diva a la Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli in Cabaret. Also we had lengthy discussions on the scenes.

And during the shoot Bipasha got so in with her character that as if she was visible only to Jerry and completely unaware of the actor’s presence on the sets. Her entire attitude and behaviour while playing the character made the entire experience very interesting”.

Bollywood’s hot damsel Bipasha Basu plays an imaginary siren who seduces a guy in the movie Pankh . Directed by Sudipto Chattopadhyay, ‘Pankh’ is about a 20-year-old boy, Jerry, who is confused about his identity – whether he’s a boy or a girl, a man or eunuch. Since, he used to be a famous child artiste, cross-dressed by his mother as a girl. Bipasha’s character is an imaginary one, who exists in this boy’s thoughts as a fantasy. The film deals with the psychological consequences of the situation faced by a child artiste who acts as a girl in films.Bipasha’s look for this movie is created by Rocky S and Gavin Miguel. Sudipto wanted Bipasha to look like Sophia Loren and Liza Minelli from ‘Cabaret’ in a sizzling song ‘Jiya Jala Na’ sung by Sunidhi Chouhan.In this song Bipasha tries to seduce Jerry. She causes a constant disturbance in Jerry’s mind. His only relief is when he sexually fantasizes about Bips.The director reveals that Bips has a different look in every scene of the flick, as she is a non-existent character.It is learnt that Bipasha agreed to do the film after just a single-line narration. And she is believed to have given a terrific performance, if the director’s comments are to go by.

Bipasha replaces Karisma Kapoor

Karisma Kapoor would have made her much- touted comeback on the big screen opposite Sanjay Dutt, but she stepped back. The film in question is G S Entertainment’s Lamha, Lamha, to be directed by National award winning director Rahul Dholakia had Karisma play a Kashmiri girl, but she chickened out at the last minute because she feared shooting in the troubled Kashmir valley.
However, Bipasha Basu has replaced Karisma in Lamha. Bipasha has already begun learning the Kashmiri language. She has also asked her producers to get a Kashmiri girl to Mumbai so that she can study the body language, speech patterns and the mannerisms of a typical Kashmiri girl. Lamha is based on Kashmir and will throw light on different issues ranging from terrorists, the army, the displaced Kashmiri pundits and the locals. It’s a story about an army man and his love interest in Kashmir, but at the same time, it will portray the various issues that Kashmir has been facing for years now. The film is slated to go on the floors this October. “We will complete the film by December-end,” added Bunty Walia, head honcho of G S Entertainment.

No Marriage plans with John Abraham: Bipasha Basu

When I meet her for this interview at Yashraj Studios, Bipasha Basu tells me that she is more than happy with the fact that since the time that she had made her debut in Bollywood with Abbas-Mustan’s Ajnabee, she has made rapid strides as an actress in the last eight years and carved for herself a niche in the industry. “It has been a learning process for me from Ajnabee till my latest release- Bachna Ae Haseena. I have learnt everything on the job slowly and steadily unlike then new comers today who come prepared even with their first film.” Bipasha confesses that she has matured with time and become more responsible, as an actress. “I am glad I could live to see a film of mine celebrating its golden jubilee like my second film after Ajnabee- Raaz did. I am not bragging about it but genuinely I feel sad that today it is not possible for any actor, including John Abraham to celebrate the jubilee of his or her film, since a stage has come when a film has got to recover its cost in the first three days of its release with films having become a big business with the mushrooming of the multiplexes.”

Bipasha admits that she enjoyed working with Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseena. “I had a fabulous time playing the character of the Shiamak Davar dancer Radhika in Bachna Ae Haseena” Bipasha recalls the fact that while doing a dance number for the film, she even had a tear in her meniscus but continued to perform after a physiotherapist was brought to the sets and kept on stand by to attend to her. According to her, the choreographer Ahmed Khan manipulated the steps in such a way that the weight was there only on the left leg and the best thing was that when she saw the film, it looked like she was not at all in pain when executing her steps. Bipasha is angry when you ask her how comfortable is it to be pitted with a young guys like Ranbir Kapoor in Bachna Ae Haseena and Neil Mukesh in Freeze, who are younger than her. “Why is an actress who has not even touched 30 labelled as a senior actress just because she is cast opposite new actors like Ranbir and Neil, who are younger to me just by two to three years? Aishwarya Rai has married Abhishek Bachchan who is three years younger to her but has it in any way changed their relationship”?

Bipasha feels that it is unfair that there is an anti lobby for a woman when she is cast opposite a younger actor even though she does not sport wrinkles. “Why is it that no one has any objection when an actor like Nana Patekar or for that matter Anil Kapoor is cast opposite actresses who are half their age? There was no hue and cry raised when Akshay Khanna was teamed in Dil Chahta Hai opposite Dimple who is senior to him by 25 years. It is indeed high time that women are given a break.”Bipasha feels that she has not been given her due as an actor though she had given an award winning performance in Corporate because of limitations. “There are many reasons why I am not offered good films. I do not belong to any particular camp like some other actresses. It is well known fact that I have a boy friend who I do not hide in my closet. All said and done, we should not forget the fact that it is a hero oriented film industry and I cannot ask for more than what I being offered.”

Bipasha is now getting opportunities to prove her mettle as an actress. Among the films that she has up her sleeves are Freeze directed by Jehangir Surti and Pankh directed by Sudipto Gupta. While Freeze in which she has been teamed opposite Neil Mukesh is a romantic thriller, Pankh is a psychological thriller which deals with the psyche of a young boy who has to play a girl child because of his mum’s pressure. I play this interesting imaginary character of a woman who guides him through his turmoil.”Bipasha is frank enough to admit that she could identify a lot with the character of Radhika which she had essayed in Bachna Ae Haseena, because Radhika is a contemporary young independent young woman like Bipasha is. “Your first love can end in marriage if you are lucky. Also you can fall in love any number of times till you end up meeting your ideal soul mate. It is all a question of your luck.”

Bipasha does not mind admitting that love is her top priority in life even though she is a career woman. “What would you do in life if you are busy 24/7 with only your work and have no one to share your life? However, in case you want to know when I am planning top plunge into marriage with John, let me confess that as of now there are no marriage plans for us though we do not hide the fact that we are seeing each other and are in love. What I like the best about John and myself is that both of us do not carry the baggage of being stars. We are like-minded soul mates who do not like to hide behind sunglasses.”

I have NO equation with Katrina: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu is as cool as a cucumber even when you dissect controversies about her being a snob on her film sets! “I am not here to make friends, however if I see that my co-star is friendly and fun, I do reciprocate in the same fashion,” she says with a smile on her face.Talking about making friends, has she been able to make friendship with Bebo after their much talked about tiff?

“There is no question of patching up with Kareena since we never fought with each other, besides she is not my ex lover! Whatever happened between Kareena and me in my first film was years ago and I don’t even remember it? My memory is only 3 years. I don’t remember things beyond 3 years but media likes to keep the alleged tiff alive! The fight or whatever it was, given the person that I am, I can’t literally fight with someone be it with words or by actions. It was just awkwardness and it’s gone because she called me for Saif’s birthday recently.

“It was very sweet of her. She spent a little time with me. She really took good care of me and didn’t leave me alone even for a second. We spoke quite a bit and of whatever time I spent with her, she is a fine human being, I just didn’t get a chance to know her before.” But were her differences with Katrina media created too? “No. I say that I don’t speak to Katrina because if I am given a vibe from the opposite side then I will keep quiet. I am not the kind who is here to make friends. If someone gives me a vibe, I am going to behave in the same fashion. There is no catfight, we work together and its professional but we don’t speak. I can’t dissect the reasons but she is not a close friend for me to say why. I am like this. If you show me you are friendly, fun co-star, I will behave in the same fashion. There is no equation between us. There is no animosity but no vibe either. I wish her well”, signed off Bipasha putting to rest all the speculations about her rapport with the K ladies!

Bipasha Injured

Bollywood star (oh, how she loves that phrase!) Bipasha Basu recently tore her knee doing dance steps in Bangkok. “I didn’t even know it was a tear,” she explains, “There was a lot of pain in Bangkok and I didn’t know what it was. It’s a very common occurrence in the legs of active people like dancers and athletes. There’s no cure for it. If you lead a routine life it doesn’t bother you at all. Otherwise there’s arthroscopy. But my orthopaedic surgeons have not advised it.” Bipasha is filming in Thailand for the movie Freeze with Neil Nitin Mukesh where she pushes him off the top of a building – much as she did with Saif Ali Khan in Race. “Race was a hit,” she says, “And if Freeze turns out to be a success they’ll think my pushing heroes off buildings is lucky for a film. Everyone will start writing in a ‘heroine-pushes-hero’ scene into all my scripts. I’m becoming a hero-pusher.” Bipasha, who is 29 years old and one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood with two big hits already this year in Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno, has been quite rightly commenting lately on ageism in Bollywood. Firstly, she objects to being referred to as the ‘senior’ haseena in BAH. Secondly, she has looked through the 30 age barrier and seen that the industry doesn’t offer much to the working woman these days except Mother-and-Auntie roles.

Bipasha has had a very successful career so far. Having gotten off to a good start with a Best Female Debut Award for Ajnabee, she was then nominated for a Best Actress Award for Raaz opposite Dino Morea, lifting to a higher level the horror genre in the process. Other notable films have included Jism, No Entry, Corporate, Dhoom 2, No Smoking and Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal.

Bipasha has been upset recently by scurrilous rumours in the more irresponsible Bollywood press that she has been driving a wedge in the Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor partnership during the promotional phase of the successful Bachna….. She has dismissed this out of hand. “Let me say it right now, Ranbir is not a good friend, he is a great friend,” she states for the record. “I enjoyed working with him throughout the film. Though I didn’t work alongside Deepika, I spent a lot of time with her during the promotion. I get on well with her.” Still, that kiss on screen with Ranbir does look quite remarkably hot!

Bips two next films both sound very interesting. In Phankh, she plays an imaginary character created by a boy who has to dress up as a girl for his Bollywood career; and then she is making a Bengali movie – she comes from a Bengali family herself, though born in New Delhi – which is about a woman who finds life with her poet husband confusing but when he dies and she starts reading his poetry, she begins to fall in love with him.
