Esha Deol has probably only had her famous parents’ names to rely on these last few years. Of late, the actress’s films have vanished without a trace from the box office. With a spate of disasters like Cash, Darling and One, Two, Three to her name, Esha now finds herself at the bottom of the rung. A film opposite Shiney Ahuja titled Hijack which releases today, is her one hope for a hit. So, what is it Esha will do to resurrect her declining career? The last time around, a sizzling makeover and an ultra-fit bod created the much-needed ‘Dhoom’. Does she have special plans up her sleeve this time? Is momma Hema going to pitch in with ideas? Wait a minute. Doesn’t dad Dharmendra own a film production house? Well, then it shouldn’t be too difficult for her to keep experimenting until she gets a hit, should it? “I can’t really say anything about that. I’m only a daughter to my dad, and not an actress. So, it’s better if the father-daughter relationship continues like that,” she said dowdily. We were slightly taken aback, but then we promptly remembered that Vijeta Films is currently being handled by step-brothers Bobby and Sunny. So, we moved onto her dear little sister Ahana, who’s an aspiring director. Would Esha like to work in a film directed by lil sis?

“Yeah, I will work with my sister,” she says without hesitation, and this time with a little more enthusiasm. “But she won’t start directing yet. She’s young and still enjoying life, maybe 2-3 years from now,” she says. We’ve reached the conclusion that star kids don’t have it as easy, as it seems in films after all. In the big, bad world of Bollywood, Esha bhi hota hai!

Sonal Chauhan In Esha Deol Out

After cutting three cakes on her birthday on May 16, yes, the same day as her debut film Jannat’s released, Sonal Chauhan has received the best birthday gift ever. “Jannat has opened to 100 percent,” gushes the ecstatic newcomer.Sonal who’s already made waves in the modeling industry has now been accepted with open arms by Bollywood, too. She’s bagging offers galore and now has hit box office gold with the stupendous opening of Jannat. Says Sonal, “It is the best birthday gift I have ever received. Jannat has released on my birthday and I’ve been told that it’s doing really well. Apparently, Jannat has fetched the biggest start after RAAZ, for the Bhatts.” The Bhatts seem to have a winner on hand and so does Sonal! In fact so happy are they that they have signed Sonal for their next after Jannat, Raaz 2 the sequel to Raaz. Not many know that Sonal replaced Esha Deol in Jannat. Esha’s loss is Sonal’s gain!

Esha Deol may play tennis star Sania Mirza in “I for India”

Now, a film is rumoured to be based on the life of tennis star Sania Mirza. The film titled I For India will be produced by Deepak R Gandhi - MD of Umbrella Films in collaboration with Los Angeles-based Distant Horizon Films. Gandhi has recently completed a comedy film, Kuchh Khel Kuchh Masti.When contacted, Hemant Das, the director of the film, says, “The film is definitely inspired by the life of Sania Mirza.But it’s best to say that it is based on anybody who dreams of making it big and who chases the dream against all odds.”Esha Deol. So what are the similarities between the film and the tennis icon’s life? Hemant says diplomatically, “We are definitely not drawing up any biographical inspiration. However, there might be some character traits similar to Ms Mirza. It’s a mix of fiction and reality.”And who has been signed to play the title role? “We have Esha Deol in mind,” adds the debutante director.Any guesses for who will play Sania’s love interest, Shahid Kapur?

Weeks after having shot her first comedy in Pondicherry Esha Deol is still laughing ….all the way to the brink. Her character of a loud brassy talkative café owner in producer Kumar Mangat’s comedy 123 (helmed by the talented sitcom director of Office Office Ahswini Dheer) was never meant to be region-specific. “But them Ashwini heard me chattering away in Tamil with my mother who had come visiting me in Pondicherry. He loved the cute intonations and loud-and-soft dips ‘n’ curves in our language.”That’s when Esha’s character in 123 turned Tamilian.”It’s my first attempt at comedy. Though I’ve been part of comedy films like No Entry, I’ve never done the funny stuff. It was great fun going over-the-top, specially the portions where I had to speak my mother tongue.” Esha has spoken Tamil on screen before. “That’s right. In the Tamil version of Mani Rathnam’s Yuva. But that was a different style of Tamil-spoken by the Iyer community—from what we speak at home which is the Iyenger Tamil. So that was tough. The Tamil in 123 was a cakewalk. They loved my aiyyos and appas so much that they’ve decided to use them as a voice-over in the promos,” Esha is delighted by her side-splitting lingo opportunity. Back home she has just shot an ad for a water purifier with her mom Hema Malini and sister Ahana. And Esha can’t stop raving about her sister. “She’s such a natural before the camera, she beats me hollow. I’m so proud of her. But Ahana doesn’t want to act. How did she agree to do this ad? Well, for one it required the three of us to do the things we normally do, like strike Bharat Natyam poses together. And secondly nobody, not even Ahana, says no to my mother.” Esha is currently enjoying a state of nirvanic holiday. “I’ve no assignments on hand after 123.And I’m happy to wait for the right offers.”
