Bhatt camp doesn’t want Mallika Sherawat

The Bhatts are staying miles apart Mallika Sherawat these days. Never mind, if this is the same lady who got her big break with the Bhatts with the film Murder in 2004.But here’s the reason why the blue-eyed girl of the Bhatts has suddenly fallen out of favour. The reason is the same: Her reported attitude that is lately scaring away filmmakers from her. Three years back, Pooja Bhatt had announced a project titled Cabaret which was supposed to have Mallika Sherawat in the lead, but the film never took off. It was rumoured that Mallika had fallen out with Mahesh Bhatt after having a tiff with Emraan Hashmi. This ugly incident happened during the shooting of the film and rift never got bridged after that. Now even as Pooja is breathing life into the project, there will be no signs of Mallika in it. The movie is set to go on the floors next year and is now being directed by scriptwriter-turned-filmmaker Shagufta Rafique.

“Mallika is not the same person that she was four years ago. She would have jumped into the project after hearing the script. Now she is only concerned about money and not roles. So, we have decided not to even approach her for the film because we know she will not do it,” says director Shagufta.Cabaret narrates the story of a girl who works as a pole dancer and seduces men with her moves. The girl meets a man who falls head-over-heels in love with her but she does not realise the man’s worth till the end.

She goes on to break this man’s heart.“It is an interesting script and we are currently looking to cast for the film. The film goes on floors next year and so we need to finalise things. It is not a mega budget film but we are looking out for good actors,” she says.

Mallika Sherawat over stressed with Hisss

Mallika Sherawat recently completed a schedule of Jennifer Lynch’s Hisss in the jungles and backwaters of Kerala. It was almost as if she was holding on for the schedule to end. On her return to Mumbai, the actress collapsed. Says Vikram Singh, Mallika’s brother and co-producer (along with Govind Menon and Ratan Jain) of Hisss, “Mallika has been suffering from extreme exhaustion and very high fever ever since she returned from Thekkady, where we were shooting. She’s resting at home but is still very weak. She had high fever on the sets but she chose to shoot through it. We had doctors and medical aid on the sets around the clock.” Though Mallika had doctors on the sets, she refused to take too much medication. Vikram adds, “Though there were doctors on standby Mallika doesn’t believe in medication. She’s a naturalist and believes getting cured the natural way or through yoga, so severe exhaustion hit her once the shoot got over.” The actress is suffering from exhaustion and high fever because of the rigorous schedule. “She was shooting every day from 5 am till late evening for the last 15 days. And it would rain heavily every day.

Also the jungle was infested with insects and leeches which crept inside her snake suit and would make it difficult for her to remove. The leeches, especially, were all over her body as she had to lie down on the ground,” confirms her brother.

But before she took ill, Vikram, Jennifer and the unit of Hisss had a Diwali celebration in the jungle. Vikram says, “We called a pandit who only chants Sanskrit hymns to do a puja. We had idols of Lakshmi and Ganesh. It was very nice and a different way of celebrating.”

Doctor called in for Mallika

Mallika Sherawat has been shooting non-stop for Jennifer Lynch’s Naagin The Snake Woman and fell ill last week as a result. Govind Menon and Mallika’s brother Vikram are co-producing the film along with Ratan Jain of Venus Records and Tapes. Irrfan Khan co-stars. Says a source on the sets of Filmistan where Naagin is currentlyly being shot, “Mallika has been shooting round the clock for the last week when she fell ill due to exhaustion and fever. Though it’s a normal shift, it sometimes stretches from 9 am to 9 pm. The strain proved to be too much for Mallika. She is working very hard on her role. Her make-up alone takes four hours! Last Friday, the actress was in no condition to shoot. Her physician Dr Agarwal had to be called in to give her shots to help her get through the day.”The actress is a strict vegetarian and believes in eating only natural foods, so her protein intake isn’t high, which could have been a cause of her collapse. The source adds that Mallika is a strong woman and recovered fast. “We have put up a huge workshop in the studio where special effects creator Robert Kurtzman (Vanilla Sky, Evil Dead and Quentin Tarantino’s films) is actually creating a 12-feet long huge snake which Mallika transforms into.

The film which was to be shot in Chennai originally was delayed of lightmen’s strike there, so the unit is working against time to complete the film, which they want to release in May 2009. So Mallika has been shooting without any complains about the long hours.”Mallika’s brother Vikram says, “Yes, we had to call in Dr Agarwal as Mallika was unwell but she’s all right now.”

Mallika in RGV’s Contract!

Mallika Sherawat will play an important role in Ram Gopal Verma’s Contract, a film based on the underworld.

However, everybody including Ramu is very hush-hush about the exact details of Mallika’s character.

A source from Ramu’s office said, “Mallika plays a significant role but we can’t reveal the length of her role. All I can say is that you will see Mallika as Mallika Sherawat in the film.

The film which is slated to release next week, has a lot of newcomers.

Mallika creates a uproar

The Pondicherry schedule of ‘Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam’ came to a standstill when thousands flocked the set to have a glimpse of Bollywood’s most sought after glam girl Mallika Sherawat, who plays the female lead in the film and producer Ratan Jain had to hire 100 security men to keep them at bay. Confirming the incident, Jain said: ‘Yes the situation had become slightly desperate and before it could go out of hand, I immediately made arrangement for 100 security men. Mallika is the lead actress of my film. Hence she is my responsibility and it was my duty to see that there is optimum safety as a producer. I hired a local agency for her protection.’ Jain’s repeated pleas to the people to keep their distance fell on deaf ears. The crowd just did not budge, refusing to keep their hands off Mallika. ‘This practically brought the shooting to a standstill. Fans kept gheraoing Mallika and refused to leave her alone. No matter what we did, they refused to leave and tried to come closer for a glimpse of the actress,’ a unit member revealed. After ‘Pyaar Ke Side Effects’ this is Mallika’s second film with Rahul Bose and both the actors got along famously as co-stars.

Shilpa Shetty: “I’m just happy that the obscenity case against my dress in Tamil Nadu is quashed. I won.”
Malaika Arora: “I think Mallika has become a favourite punching-bag in the press. Leave the girl alone. It’s ridiculous. Maybe the moral police in the South should take a closer look at their own films for obscenity.”
Rahul Khanna: “I feel quite sad for the moral police. Perhaps they’re jealous of Mallika’s legs. They seem to have a lot of free time on hand? Why not use it for issues more important than length of skirts?”

Pooja Bedi: “I think the more importance the media gives such people the more such cases we’ll see. The quickest route to fame is to sue celebrities. Morality is so subjective. Do these moralists want to take us back to the days of the purdah? And should their standards of morality be applicable to society? Was there a dress code at the music event? If not how could they expect a girl with a glamorous sexy image to land up in a salwar-kameez?
Nandana Sen: “It’s absurd! Mallika is beautiful and has a style of her own .How can anyone have the right to say that style is wrong? Should we all start wearing uniforms now to make everyone happy? Clothes are one of the ways in which a person expresses her or his individuality. Dictating what another individual wears is as ridiculous as a third party forbidding you, a writer, from choosing certain topics. Or me, an actor, from taking on certain roles. And if I decide to do what I choose, should my nose and ear be cut as happened today? What’s the issue with Mallika’s clothes? If the concern is protecting women’s dignity, why don’t we create a safe and protective environment so that little girls aren’t thrown into fires for stepping beyond boundaries that should never have been set up?

Mallika’s dress drags her in news again

Activists of the Hindu Makkal Katchi have protested against Bollywood actress Mallika Sherawat’s indecent attire while accompanying Hollywood action hero Jackie Chan to the music release of a Tamil film. They threatened to sue Sherawat and the organisers for this “obscenity”.”We lodged a complaint against Sherawat for her attire at the music release function of ‘Dasavathaaram’ in which she came in an uncivilized manner, and in which Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was also present,” said Kannan, the group’s organising secretary.Jackie Chan released the music of the film ‘Dasavathaaram’ at a function in the city on April 25.Leading Indian film personalities including superstars of Hindi and Malayalam cinema, Amitabh Bachchan and Mammootty respectively, veteran Bollywood actress Hema Malini, music director Himesh Reshammiya attended the function.The film is Kamal Haasan’s most ambitious project so far. Haasan has acted in the film and written its story, screenplay and dialogues.K.S. Ravikumar has directed the movie. The film’s other stars are Mallika Sherawat, Assin, Jaya Prada. Kamal Hassan plays 10 unusual characters.The current heartthrob, Himesh Reshammiya, has scored the music for the film, his first ever for a Tamil production. The film is to be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi simultaneously worldwide some time in May.

Mallika Sherawat is always in the buzz for her bonding with most of her male co stars. She shares a good rapport with Nana Patekar and Anil Kapoor with whom she has already worked. It seems that it is now actor Paresh Rawal who is the latest addition in her list. Apparently Mallika has worked with Paresh Rawal in three films like Bach Ke Rehna Re Baba, Welcome and Fauj Main Mauj . They were recently shooting for a fantasy song sequence for a Sanjay Chhel’s forthcoming film Maan Gaye Mughal-e-Azam in which Paresh plays the role of Emperor Akbar and Mallika as Anarkali. A unit hand said, “Mallika is paired opposite Rahul Bose but more than Rahul she shares an extremely good rapport with Paresh Rawal. Whenever she comes on the set she says Salam, Huzur-E- Alam to Paresh. She is very jovial with Paresh Raval and both of them are usually seen chatting and playing pranks on each other.” Director Sanjay Chhel corroborates “Paresh Raval is quite a no nonsense actor, when he is shooting. Sometimes he gets tensed if things don’t happen on time. But Mallika who is always fun loving and cheerful on the set, loves to take his case. She calls him Badshah-E-Alam . She loves to get into the skin of her character so whenever she comes on the set, she acts like Anarkali.” A unit hand adds that director Sanjay Chhel and Paresh Rawal talk in Gujrati and Mallika feels that when they talk in Gujrati they discuss her. However she too makes fun of both and all of them burst into laughter. “Yes it’s true. Paresh and I were talking about the weather and the hot temperature in Gujarat. When Mallika overheard us, she felt that we had called her hot. She burst into laughter when she came to know what we were actually talking about.” Chhel signs off.

Mallika Sherawat on a new role

Mallika Sherawat is all set to go westwards again. She has bagged her second Hollywood assignment after Jackie Chan’s The Myth. This one is The Aquarian Gospel, the epic story of Jesus Christ’s missing years, which chronicles his journey from Israel as a boy of 13, through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt. It describes how as a young man of 30, Jesus encountered people of all creeds, classes and faiths, and also the world’s greatest saints and sages, before becoming a prophet whose life and teachings swept the world. Sherawat plays Saraswati, a celibate yogini (brahmacharini), who Yeshua (Jesus) bonds with on his journey through India. This role is a nice contrast for an actress known as the Bollywood sexiest heroine! But since a large part of the film is set in India, the director and producers decided to begin casting from the East, and are excited to have Mallika as part of the project. Australian director Drew Heriot (The Secret) said about his heroine, “Mallika is not just a pretty face, she is versatile, has a background in philosophy and will be able to convey the richness of the subject.” The film, incidentally, portrays Jesus’s teachings in new environments and explores its similarities with those of the East. Mallika is excited at having landed a plum role in this Hollywood production. “I love the personality of the character and feel that it will be a terrific challenge to bring Saraswati to life,” the actress said. “I find that in most mythological and spiritual films, women seem to be lacking any true wisdom or a sense of humour. I look forward to bringing both of those qualities to this character. John F Sullivan and William Sees Keenan, who co-wrote the script for The Aquarian Gospel, were inspired by the best-selling book The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ (1898) by Russian anthropologist Nicholas Notovich. A journey to Tibet by Notovich led to the discovery of ancient scrolls describing the missing years of the life of Jesus and The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ (1908) by evangelical preacher Levi Dowling.

Mallika Sherawat in a Jesus Christ film

Mallika Sherawat is going to be cast in a film on Jesus Christ. Yup you heard it right, however sacrilegious it may sound to some but the feisty Jat girl will be seen in Australian filmmaker Drew Heriot’s upcoming ‘The Aquarian Gospel’. The film takes its name from a century-old book that examined Christianity’s eastern roots and is in its 53rd reprint. It traces the years in Christ’s life from the age of 13 to 30, of which there is no record in history. There are many theories about what Christ did in those years, one of the popular beliefs being that he visited Kashmir. Mallika will play Saraswati, a loyal friend of Christ, when he travels through India. The film’s producers say the movie will be shot using actors and computer animation like 300, the retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, and will follow the travels of Jesus. Casting for other suitable Bollywood and Hollywood actors has begun. “We think that Indian religions and Buddhism, especially with the idea of meditation, played a big part in Christ’s thinking. In the film we are looking beyond the canonised gospels to the ‘lost’ gospels,” said William Sees Keenan, the producer, who is currently making Lindsay Lohan’s Poor Things.The theory that Jesus’s teachings had roots in Indian traditions has been around for more than a century. In 1894 a Russian doctor, Nicholas Notovitch, published a book called The Unknown Life of Christ, in which he claimed that while recovering from a broken leg in a Tibetan monastery in the Ladakh region, close to Kashmir, he had been shown evidence of Christ’s Indian wanderings. He said he was shown a scroll recording a visit by Jesus to India and Tibet as a young man. Indian experts claim that documentary proof remains of this Himalayan visit. “I have seen the scrolls which show Buddhist monks talking about Jesus’s visits. There are also coins from that period which show Yuzu or have the legend Issa on them, referring to Jesus from that period,” said Fida Hassnain, former director of archaeology at the University of Srinagar. Hassnain, who has written books on the legend of Jesus in India, points out that there was extensive traffic between the Mediterranean and India around the time of Jesus’s life. The academic pointed out that in Srinagar a tomb of Issa is still venerated. “It is the Catholic church which has closed its mind on the subject. Historians have not.”
